Surah Al-Buruj (The Mansions of the Stars, البروج) is the 85th surah of the Noble Quran — a Meccan surah of 22 verses. Read it below in Arabic with the English translation of Marmaduke Pickthall, and listen verse by verse to famous Egyptian reciters.

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

85:1

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلْبُرُوجِ ١

By the heaven, holding mansions of the stars,

85:2

وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْمَوْعُودِ ٢

And by the Promised Day.

85:3

وَشَاهِدٍۢ وَمَشْهُودٍۢ ٣

And by the witness and that whereunto he beareth testimony,

85:4

قُتِلَ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْأُخْدُودِ ٤

(Self-)destroyed were the owners of the ditch

85:5

ٱلنَّارِ ذَاتِ ٱلْوَقُودِ ٥

Of the fuel-fed fire,

85:6

إِذْ هُمْ عَلَيْهَا قُعُودٌۭ ٦

When they sat by it,

85:7

وَهُمْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَفْعَلُونَ بِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ شُهُودٌۭ ٧

And were themselves the witnesses of what they did to the believers.

85:8

وَمَا نَقَمُوا۟ مِنْهُمْ إِلَّآ أَن يُؤْمِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْحَمِيدِ ٨

They had naught against them save that they believed in Allah, the Mighty, the Owner of Praise,

85:9

ٱلَّذِى لَهُۥ مُلْكُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ شَهِيدٌ ٩

Him unto Whom belongeth the Sovereignty of the heavens and the earth; and Allah is of all things the Witness.
