Online Quran Classes: From the Arabic Alphabet to Ijazah in 4 Stages

Many people want to read the Qur’an properly but don’t know where to begin — especially if they never learnt Arabic. Good online Quran classes should meet you exactly where you are: at the first letter of the alphabet, or ready to recite in front of a teacher for an Ijazah.

At Midad Institute our Qur’anic Programme covers the whole journey, from the alphabet to Ijazah, in four stages.

Stage 1 — Learning to read the Qur’an

The first stage gives you a firm grounding in reading the noble Qur’an, step by step:

  1. Reading the Arabic alphabet with correct pronunciation
  2. Learning the Arabic vowels
  3. Learning how letters connect
  4. Reading Qur’anic words
  5. Reading short verses from the Qur’an

Students are expected to complete this stage in about 3 months.

Stage 2 — Tajweed and first memorization

In stage two you build on what you learnt by studying the rules of Tajweed. At the same time you begin to memorize short verses while your teacher corrects your recitation. This stage also takes about 3 months.

Stage 3 — The advanced stage: preparing for Ijazah

Once you have started memorizing with correct Tajweed, preparation for the Ijazah begins. Your recitation continues to be corrected, and you demonstrate a high level of Tajweed.

Stage 4 — Ijazah with a high sanad

Finally, with the permission of Allah and the student’s hard work, you complete your Ijazah with a high sanad (chain of transmission) back to the Prophet ﷺ.

Midad provides Ijazat in the Qur’an with some of the highest asanid, and certificates certified by Al-Azhar Al-Sharif in the Noble Qur’an.

How our online Quran classes work

  • Live lessons in virtual rooms with audio, video and a virtual whiteboard, so your teacher hears every letter and corrects you on the spot.

  • Flexible timing — lessons are planned around your schedule, day or night.
  • Beautifying your recitation — we also offer lessons in improving your Qur’anic recitation and training for Qur’an teachers.
